Academy terms of service

Last updated: 14 September 2026

These terms govern your use of the Blue Autonomy Academy at academy.blueautonomy.gr: the courses, your account, the examinations and the certificates. They are a contract between you and Blue Autonomy E.E. ("we", "us"), whose details are at the end of this page. The main site at blueautonomy.gr has its own terms; our privacy policy covers both.

1. What the Academy is

The Academy publishes self-paced, online professional courses on vessel performance, maritime energy efficiency, marine engineering and the regulations around them, written and examined by Blue Autonomy. They are private professional training. They are not a state-recognised qualification, not a licence to practise, and not part of any national education system, and we do not present them as such.

2. Free courses and accounts

You can read every free course and take every lesson quiz without an account. An account exists so that your progress follows you across devices and so that examinations and certificates can be tied to a person. There is no password: when you enter your email address we send you a sign-in link, and your account is created the first time a link is used. Each account is for one person, and the name you give us is the name that will be printed on any certificate you earn.

Keep your sign-in links to yourself. Anyone who uses a link you forward is treated as you.

3. Paid courses

A paid course opens its first lesson free, as a sample, and keeps the rest for accounts that hold access to it. Access is granted per course, to one account, for that person's own use, and does not expire. Where we offer online checkout, payment is taken by our payment provider at the price shown; until then, access is arranged with us directly. Our refund and withdrawal policy says when a purchase can be cancelled.

Some paid courses carry required exercises: a downloadable workbook you complete against the numbers the lesson states. The time these take is included in the course time we quote, and the workbooks are for your own use.

4. What you may do with the material

Everything on the Academy — lessons, quizzes, examinations, workbooks, calculators, figures and text — is owned by Blue Autonomy or its licensors. You may use it for your own learning. You may not copy, share, republish, sell or redistribute paid material, share your access with others, or use automated tools to download or scrape the site. Short quotations with attribution are welcome.

5. Examinations

A course that carries a certificate ends in a final examination, marked on our server rather than in your browser. The rules are the same for every course:

  • The questions are drawn at random from a pool that covers every lesson, and the answer options are shuffled. The pool is larger than the number of questions you see.
  • The pass mark is 80%. You have three attempts, with at least 48 hours between them, and one minute per question.
  • The examination is open book. It is not invigilated: we tie the attempt to the account and the person who signed in to it, and we do not watch you sit it.
  • After each attempt you see your score and which questions you got wrong, but not the correct answers, because the same pool serves your next attempt.
  • A free course's examination opens when every paid course of its specialisation is on your account. The course page says so where this applies.

A specialisation ends in a capstone project: one scenario drawing on the whole sequence, submitted through the site and marked on our server. It opens once you hold a certificate for every examined course of the sequence, and it allows two attempts, each within a seven-day window, with the same 80% pass mark.

If you cheat — have someone else sit an attempt, share questions, or use another account's access — we may void the attempt, withdraw any certificate it led to, and close the account.

6. Certificates and the public register

When you pass, we issue a PDF certificate in your name, with a certificate number and the address at which anyone can verify it. The certificate is issued once and never regenerated: the document you receive is the document of record. It states your name, the course or specialisation, your score and the date of issue.

Every certificate is entered in our public register at academy.blueautonomy.gr/verify. Anyone who has the number can see your name, what it was awarded for, the score and the date, without an account. By earning a certificate you agree to this: a certificate nobody can verify is worth little to you, and the register is what makes ours worth something. The register does not publish your email address or anything else about you.

We may withdraw a certificate if it was issued in error, if the purchase behind it is refunded, or if it was earned in breach of these terms. A withdrawn certificate is shown as withdrawn in the register; the reason is told to you, not published. Errors in a name are corrected on request.

If you delete your account, the register entry for any certificate you hold is kept, so that the document in your hands stays verifiable. If you would rather it were removed, ask us to withdraw the certificate.

7. The content, and what it is for

We write the courses carefully, we date them, and we revise them when the rules they describe change. Even so, they are education, not advice. Nothing here is engineering, legal, commercial or regulatory advice for a particular ship, voyage, contract or company, and you should not act on it as if it were. Regulations quoted are those in force or announced at the date stated on the lesson.

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Academy available at all times but do not promise it. We may change, add to or retire courses, and we may revise these terms; the date at the top is the date of the current version. A change to the examination rules applies to attempts started after the change. If we ever retire a paid course, you keep access to its material for as long as the Academy runs.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer. Subject to that, our liability to you in connection with the Academy is limited to the amount you paid us for the course concerned, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for decisions taken on the basis of course material.

10. Complaints, appeals and disputes

If something has gone wrong, our complaints and appeals procedure says how to tell us and what we will do, including how to appeal an examination result. These terms are governed by Greek law, and the courts of Athens have jurisdiction, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to bring a claim in your own country of residence.
