What a Blue Autonomy Academy certificate attests

For the employer, recruiter or superintendent who has been handed one: what the holder did to earn it, how it was marked, who stands behind it, and how to check it without asking us.

Check it first

Every certificate carries a number and the address academy.blueautonomy.gr/verify. Open that address, enter the number, and our register tells you whether the document is genuine, whom it was issued to, for what, with what score and on what date, or whether it has been withdrawn. No account, no email to us. A certificate whose number the register does not know was not issued by us.

Two kinds of certificate

A Certificate of Completion is for one course. A Certificate of Specialisation is for a sequence of courses completed in full plus a capstone project, and it names every course it comprises — on the register, and on the document where space allows. Both are issued once, as a PDF, and never regenerated: the document the holder shows you is the document of record.

What the holder did

To earn a course certificate, the holder had every lesson of the course available to them — typically six to twelve lessons, each with a quiz — completed any required workbook exercises the course carries, and then passed a final examination marked on our server, not in their browser. The examination rules are the same for every course:

  • The questions are drawn at random from a pool that samples every lesson of the course, and the answer options are shuffled for each attempt. The pool is at least twice the size of the examination.
  • The pass mark is 80%. At most three attempts are allowed, with at least 48 hours between them, and one minute per question.
  • After an attempt the learner sees the score and which questions were wrong, but never the correct answers.

To earn a specialisation certificate, the holder first earned a course certificate for every examined course in the sequence, then passed a capstone project: one scenario drawing on the whole sequence — real vessel data, a workbook, a decision to price and defend — submitted through the site and marked on our server, with the same 80% pass mark, at most two attempts, each within a seven-day window.

Each course page publishes what a learner will be able to do at the end of it, which lessons deliver each outcome, and how long the course takes. The certificate's score is the score of the passing examination attempt.

What it does not claim

  • It is not invigilated. The examination is open book and sat online. We tie every attempt to an account and to the person who signed in to it by email, and we do not watch it being sat. What the certificate attests is that a person with access to that account passed the examination under the rules above.
  • It is not a state qualification. The Academy is private professional training by a Greek engineering company. Its certificates are not issued or recognised by any government, and they do not license anyone to do anything.
  • It is not a claim about sea time or a job. It says what the holder studied and passed, nothing about their employment.

Who issues it, and who teaches

Certificates are issued by Blue Autonomy E.E., Athens, Greece (General Commercial Registry no. 181320603000), a company working in vessel performance engineering and maritime data. Every course is written and examined by Christos Papandreou: Engineer's Degree in naval architecture and marine engineering, national technical university of athens (2013); 15 years of experience in fleet performance and operational data, at nemo, deepsea technologies, stormgeo, athenian sea carriers and pwc. Our terms of service and complaints and appeals procedure set out how examinations and certificates are governed, including when a certificate can be withdrawn.

Withdrawn certificates

A certificate is withdrawn if it was issued in error, if the purchase behind it was refunded, or if it was earned in breach of our terms. The register then shows the number as withdrawn. We do not publish the reason, because it can concern a refund or a dispute that is between us and the holder; the document should simply not be relied on.

Questions

If you need anything beyond what the register shows — for example, confirmation in writing for an HR file — email info@blueautonomy.gr quoting the certificate number. We confirm what the register says; we do not share a learner's attempts, progress or contact details.
