Every fleet pays for what it cannot see. The clearest example in the industry is hull fouling: a hidden tax of 15–35% extra fuel that accrues silently between dry dockings, visible in no invoice and — in traditional daily reporting — in no data, until it has been costing money for months.
That problem opens this course, because it makes the stakes concrete. The lessons that follow build the road out of it, step by step. Why noon reports — honourable as they are — cannot answer the questions now being asked of them, and what continuous monitoring changes. What an engineered data pipeline actually does, and why "we have the data" is not the same as "we can trust the data". Why data quality has become a compliance matter with teeth. How ISO 19030 turns trustworthy data into a standardised, defensible reading of hull and propeller performance — the disciplined answer to the fouling problem the course opened with.
The final lesson is about people, because every fleet that gets this right discovers the hard part was never the technology. Efficiency is not a system a fleet buys; it is a culture a fleet builds — and the data is how the culture keeps score.
